Circle Edge Blog Series

“Running Through Life: Stories of Passion and Resilience”
We’re back with the third and final interview of our running blog series, and today we’re focusing on The Everyday Runner. Michele has enjoyed taking part in multiple running events this year, most recently a half marathon, but describes herself as more of an Everyday Runner, enjoying the benefits running has on her mental & physical health and the social opportunities it creates being part of a running club.

What inspired you to start running?

Like a lot of girls, I fell out of love with sport at senior school, and only really got into fitness at university. After being a regular class girly, one morning a Personal Trainer turned me around at the gym entrance to go out with the running club, and that was the beginning of my journey.

Share your running journey. What has been your biggest motivation?

My biggest motivation is the mental clarity that comes whilst running. Headphones in, one foot in front of the other, it doesn’t matter how bad your day has been, what else is going on – for those few minutes nothing else matters.

Have you faced challenges along the way? How have you overcome them?I wouldn’t say challenges, dealing with injury, staying motivated after bad runs, are probably my biggest complaints! I think I’m one of the lucky ones.

How do you incorporate running into your daily routine? The biggest challenges have probably been finding time to train for races or longer runs, balancing life, commitments and making time for fitness. I don’t always win – but carving out time at the beginning or end of the day work for me.
Attending a running club  helps too, try your local park run https://www.parkrun.ie/ when you’re lacking motivation by yourself.

For you personally, does running play a role in managing stress and maintaining balance amidst life’s chaos?
Absolutely. After a busy day, I often like to close the stress cycle with a run – if I can get outside too, even better.

What do you look for in running apparel?
It’s important to me that my leggings stay put! There’s nothing worse than constantly having to pull up or adjust them mid-run. They need to be chubb rub proof (I don’t have the thighs of a runner – yet!)
Pockets are a bonus. For so long I’ve been running carry keys, phone, my fuel in my hands.

How important is it for you to feel comfortable and stylish when you run?
Very important, I think we all want to look and feel good.

Share your go-to running gear and how they/it enhance your performance.
Has to be Circle Edge leggings, Highly recommended circle edge quality sports leggingshttps://circleedge.ie/product/bree-performance-legging/ A breathable vest or t shirt and brooks are my go to shoes. I’m more of an every day runner, so I wouldn’t be too focused on performance but as long as I’m comfortable and look the part.

What encouragement would you give to women who are just starting their fitness journeys?
There are so many routes to fitness now, if running isn’t your thing try the gym, Pilates, netball, classes… the list goes on.
I have met so many life long friends through sport, there are so many benefits beyond your health goal. Never be afraid to ask for help or advice.

Any tips for maintaining motivation and balancing an active lifestyle with work and family commitments?
Make exercise enjoyable, take a walk with your favourite podcast or audio book. Run to get a coffee. Meet friends for a class or to play paddle or for a gym class.
Routine beats motivation for me, and if I can just get my shoes on – I’ll usually make it out the door!

What are your future running goals?
No big plans – I just want to keep enjoying my runs, challenging myself and maintaining my health and fitness.
